An Overview of Hi-Fi Systems

Music as the word rhymes, is the most soothing  matter that all ages can enjoy. Music nowadays has become a passion just like a sport. There is no place left where you cannot hear music, be it in a shop, bus, taxi or even some offices. Scientifically it has been proved that music relaxes tired mind and soul. Also music has been introduced in medical field to cure cancer. Although there are various sources of music, hi-fi systems is one of the sources that gives out music in its original format without distortion.

Hi-Fi or High Fidelity is the term used to refer to high quality reproduction of sound and images without noise or distortion as put forward by DIN 45500 standards in 1970s. Initially the term hi-fi was used to refer to any audio source that produced shrillest sound quality. One main benefit of hi-fi systems is its cheaper quality when compared to home theatre systems. In Hi-Fi systems the reproduction of sound or images is in its purest form.

Double-blind test ascertains high fidelity. A variant of double-blind test is the ABX test. It evaluates the digital audio data compression methods. It also compares fidelity loss between two different audio formats in different degrees at a given bitrate.

Modern hi-fi systems includes signal sources such as HD Radio Tuners, Digital Audio Tape (DAT), Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). Few modern hi-fi systems can be connected digitally with WiFi support, fibre optic TOSLINK cables and USB ports. Another modern equipment is the music server where it consists of one or more computer hard drives to hold music in the form of computer files. When the music files is stored in lossless audio file format, the playback of recorded audio from the computer helps as an audiophile quality source for the hi-fi systems.

Nowadays Hi-Fi refers to any sound system that delivers sound above average quality. Home theatre systems, CD player, DVD, surround speakers and other stereo components refers to Hi-Fi systems. Hi-Fi enthusiast enjoy music by bringing together different high quality components instead of getting an entire system. This is ofcourse helpful when he can replace one component at a time.

Earlier Hi-Fi systems were not considered much, as people believed that there was not much difference with the other music equipments. Later people realised the true sound quality and used the term Hi-Fi to refer not only the system but also the technology. Advancements in any field can never stop quality improvement and thereby paving way for further study and enhancement.
