Just invested in this baby. But there are certain things that need to be fixed in near future.
First of all the interface in general seems to be too heavy for the CPU used. There is a whole lot of waiting when switching between applikations/modules within the machine.
But the worst part is the wireless configuration. When its running its very nice, but its a real bastard to get up and run with existing wireless networks.
Situation:
The Giga Juke has no wireless in itself, so it comes with an USB adaptor (the UWA-NA1), then they provide an Accesspoint (more hardware to plug into power consuption, the Sony WAP-NA1) its okay, it has 4 LAN ethernet sticks, so you just plug in a cable from your normal router into the wireless sony AP, then you connect your Giga Juke wireless player station (wireless station with build in speakers (which you can buy extras of.. and connect combined great idea!)
Problem:
The Wireless player station, supports WPA encryption, which means its working with the needed security of modern wireless networks. So no trouble connecting that with existing router/access point.
But the USB-dongle/adaptor or the Giga Juke box itself only supports the easy-to-hack WEP encryption, so if you use the supplied hardware, you cant use a safe encryption for your wireless network, or you cannot connect your main Giga Juke NAS55HDE with the rest of your network – UNLESS you add an EXTRA wired connection to your living room… but where is the point with wireless then?
So right now, am trying to figure out IF there is new firmware for the Giga Juke NAS55HDE that delivers WPA security OR if there is some driver software for the USB-adaptor that would enable me to “get into setup mode” on it and perhaps change the default encryption or perhaps do this for the WAP-NA1 access point.
It seems like a bit of a fast solution to provide ONE part that will use the real encryption and then just add the rest of the hardware with crap/none/easy to hack encryption.
I am not pissed off with this at all, but just very confused of what to do to fix this now… i reall hope Sony has an upcomming solution for this soon…
Cheers!
